Breathwork: My Secret Sauce for Actually Feeling Present

nicole9843

So, last week I led a few breathwork and meditation sessions, and let me tell you, it hit me again just how freaking powerful breathwork is. This practice is seriously one of the only things I’ve stuck with over the years (consistently, I might add!).

I’ve always struggled with meditation. My brain is just on all the time (like everyone’s), and when I try to sit still, I get frustrated. And honestly, I end up avoiding it altogether. The overthinking, the endless distractions... ugh. But breathwork? That’s been my game changer.

Here’s what I do: I start with a simple practice—breathe in for 4 counts and out for 5, like you’re blowing out a candle. Easy, right? You can literally do it anywhere. It’s just a few intentional breaths, but the shift is unreal. This is what we call conscious breathing.

I have to do some kind of breathwork before I even think about meditating. It’s like my secret entryway to actually slowing down and being present for a handful of minutes. And when that happens, when I get even a little taste of that stillness, I feel this sense of contentment that’s hard to describe. That feeling is what keeps me coming back for more.

If you want to give it a try, start with this super simple ocean breath. Place your hands on your ribcage. As you breathe in through your mouth, feel your ribs expand (almost like an accordion). Imagine the air filling your chest like a wave rising. Then, as you breathe out through your mouth, let the air leave like a wave receding, slow and steady. Try to inhale for 4 counts, then exhale for 5. It’s like creating your own mini ocean right inside you. That’s it. No magic tricks, just intentional breathing.

I really want to share this with more people, not just in the studio but everywhere. Breathwork is accessible—it’s right there, literally in every breath we take. It’s such a simple thing that makes a huge impact on how I show up in the world. And I’m all about that right now—finding practices that feel good and actually work for me.

So, if you’ve ever struggled with meditation or just want something that helps you get out of your head and into the moment, try breathwork first. Seriously, it might be the thing that changes everything for you, like it did for me.

I’m excited to bring more breathwork into the studio and, who knows, maybe the whole world needs a little more of it too. Let’s breathe together and see what happens.

If you are curious about the powerful benefits of breathwork, come and try my

Full Moon Breathwork & Visualization Meditation Workshop on November 15th from 7:00-8:30 pm.

In this 90-minute session, we’ll use breathwork to calm the mind and center the body, followed by guided visualizations to help you tap into your intuition and inner wisdom. We’ll close with time for journaling and sharing, providing space for personal insight and release as you align with the powerful energy of the full moon.

Whether you're new to these practices or looking to deepen your journey, this workshop offers a gentle but profound way to create space for clarity, healing, and intention-setting.

You can sign up here.

xoxo, Nicole
